Rin

Category: sound installation

Rin is an audio installation, consisting in an algorithmic composition made with Supercollider, so each performance sounds in a different way, always keeping the same recognizable patterns. Its soundscape is located in a hypothetical liminal zone between the uncontainable urban sprawl of a future, dystopian, cyberpunk Tokyo and a Buddhist temple in the oldest and most secluded streets of Kyoto, where time seems to have stood still for centuries. Thus the mystical chords of the traditional Japanese mouth organs (sho) and the ancient temple bells (rin) still ring out, through synthesis sounds algorithmically orchestrated in the verticality of the frequency spectrum and the horizontality of time, creating a continuum of foamy sound waves and delicate bronze clangours similar to each other and yet always different, like spontaneous plant formations.
